Kornati Archipelago

What is there more to say or write about these beautiful treasures in the Adriatic Sea? The fact that they are often described as “nautical paradise” is not just a promotion. You will experience their true beauty while you are sailing through more than three hundred and eighty islands, reefs and islets. Here you will be able to test your nautical deckhand or Marinero skills (if you choose to book a skippered/crewed charter) or your skipper’s skills (in case of bareboat charter).

Just by looking from a distance, Kornati archipelago does not look appealing at all. The rugged and barren visage of the islands might look like a desert to some but as soon as you approach the shore, the beauty of nature will leave you breathless.
Kornati National Park lies in the central part of the Eastern Adriatic. Really, it doesn’t matter where you have started your sailing holiday because you should make a note on your itinerary to go and visit them.
Because of the exceptional beauty of the landscape, the part of this area got a national park status. It is very well-known not only because of its beauty but also because of the coastline's and the submarine's diversity.
On the island, there are just two marinas, ACI marina Piskera on the west side of the island and ACI marina Zut on the island of Zut. Nature Park Telascica has in its waters enough strong buoys and safe anchorages for sailing yachts, catamarans, motor boats or gulets.

Since it is not allowed to build any newer venues, the small fishermen houses nested in coves (and bays) now serve as shelters for the fishermen. Some of these facilities were renovated and turned into restaurants where you can enjoy locally grown and cooked traditional Dalmatian food.

Do not miss an opportunity to check out flora and fauna above and below the water surface.
Above the surface, the totally different situation, green forests that once stood were replaced with the bare and arid land. The only structures that are left are the stone walls, a reminder from the distant past when the sheep were grazing the lush vegetation.
Now the National Park Kornati is known for its isolated and high-class restaurants scattered around. It doesn’t matter which restaurant you choose because they all serve tasty and fresh caught seafood.
Just to make one thing clear, Kornati Islands include in its borders three island groups: Zadar Archipelago (in the North), Sibenik Archipelago (in the South) and of course Kornati Islands in the middle.
It would be a shame not to mention beautiful mainland towns like Sibenik, Vodice, and Primosten, full of life, bars, and restaurants where every guest can find its favourite choice of food and wine. For the sailors who like to spend their summer nights dancing in nightclubs, there is also a variety of the clubs playing different music genders.

Kornati National Park is not the only park worth visiting in this area. Close to the Sibenik town lies Krka National Park. You can reach it by sailing up the Krka River all the way to Skradin Marina. Even though the river is navigable you have to leave your sailing boat (sailing yacht, catamaran, motor boat or gullet) in the marina. After reaching Skradin you can take a ferry-boat ride all the way to the Falls and enjoy swimming in the refreshing waters of Krka River.

Primosten and the islands of Sibenik Archipelago are best visited by a boat (yacht, catamaran, motor boat or gulet). Islands like Zirje, Zlarin, Prvic, and Kaprije are in proximity so no wonder they are favourite destinations for the most sailors. Because they have more than enough secluded anchorages, excellent traditional restaurants serving fresh and traditionally prepared seafood and because it is just a short trip to a neighbouring island, you can let your hair down and enjoy your sailing holiday.

Last but not the least is Zadar Archipelago with the most dramatic island in the group – Dugi Otok. This long and thin island holds two extremes on its surface – dramatic west coast that is characterized by sheer cliffs plunging into the water and to the south National Park Telascica with a multitude of harbours that sailors can use to rest or to hide from bad weather.
Because of the diversity and richness of the Kornati Archipelago, you can spend the week sailing hidden jewels like channels, beaches, coves etc., but it will not be enough to get the feeling and experience of Kornati Island group.
If you wish to make Kornati Archipelago your next destination, please check our Zadar yacht charter, pick your boat and sail South with us!
